Harry bustled around the kitchen preparing the finishing touches on the meal he was making. He hadn't had much time to spend with his wife lately, so he had arranged this evening. Ginny had gone out shopping for a while, and Harry had dropped Lily off at the burrow to spend the night with her grandparents. Molly had happily obliged as she loved to spend time with and spoil her grandchildren.
Harry had wanted to surprise Ginny so he had gotten her a bouquet of red roses and was making her favorite dinner. He had the pasta on to boil and the chicken parm was baking in the oven. He was wearing a pair of khakis and a blue button down shirt with the top button undone. He wanted this to be special for Ginny. He looked over to the table which had a bottle of champagne chilling in a bucket of ice, the flowers, and a salad set up.
Harry smiled knowing that Ginny would love it. He went over to drain the pasta when he heard the door. "Is that you Gin?" he asked. "I'm in the kitchen." he added with a smile.

(I'll make it pretty later)
Ginny had been doing some last minute christmas shopping. She had to get more for the boys, she realized she'd bought a lot more for Lily, because she would take Lily out shopping and the girl would point out all sorts of things she wanted, and Ginny would go back later. She didn't have the boys around to do that this year, so she had to do a lot of guessing. She was pretty sure she got everything right though. She honestly hadn't thought about it until Harry pointed it out and suggested she go get more. She had gone ahead and done it. She wasn't a huge fan of shopping, she could think of a million things she'd rather be doing, but she loved the looks on her kids faces when they opened the gifts.
She finished up and walked into the house, She went to the living room and put the bags down. There was nothing there for Lily so she could go through it all she wanted. "Harry?" She walked into the kitchen and smiled. "What is this?" She asked, looking at him. She looked at the pasta and inhaled, smelling the chicken parm. She walked over to him, taking the pot, now empty and moved it to the counter before kissing him. "You're sweet." She said, she had planned on spending the evening wrapping presents. "Lily with mum and dad?" She asked. She figured that was where she would be, or else she'd be at Hermione and Ron's.

Harry smiled as he saw his wife react to the surprise. "I just thought that it had been a while since we had had a nice dinner alone together." he said. "I thought it would be a nice surprise for you to come home to." he added with a smile. Harry wrapped his arms around his wife's waist and nodded. "Yep, you know how hard it is to get your mum to watch the kids." he said jokingly.
"So is this a nice surprise then?" he asked with a smile. "We can pick Lilly up in the morning." he said. "I know you wanted to wrap the presents, but I thought this would be a better idea." he said. "Besides, we don't get enough time together." he added.

"It has been a while." Ginny agreed. She couldn't pin point the exact day, but it would have been just after the boys left. He took her out that time, to get her mind off one more of her bunch being out of the nest. That had been depressing. She had gotten use to it by now, thought she knew when Lily left, she was going to be a mess. She didn't think a night out o the town was going to help her then. Or maybe it would Honestly for a long time she dreamed about the kids going off to school, she and Harry would be able to do what they wanted. But as soon as they actually left she hated it. She missed James horribly, then albus. She was hoping that next year she'd be use to it though and maybe she could enjoy their time without kids. She smiled up at Harry and nodded.
"A very nice surprise."She said, pulling away so he could finish cooking. "Yeah, mum just hates to be bothered with her grandkids." She smiled. Yeah right, her mum would kidnap the kids if given the chance. She spoiled her grandkids so much more than she did her own kids. Ginny figured that it helped that they no longer had to support their seven kids, and could afford more now. Especially since each of her kids made a habit of sneaking money into their parents' gringotts vault. When Molly and Arthur figured it out they'd be angry, but it would be too late to do anything about it. "Just let me put these away and then we will have the night to ourselves." She smiled and went to get the bags, taking them up to Albus's room, which had become her wrapping room.

"Okay love." he said. Harry smiled as he went over to the oven. He put on a pair of red oven mits, and opened the oven door removing the pan of chicken. He placed the pan on the top of the stove and closed the door. He finished up the pasta and placed some of it, and a piece of chicken on each of there plates.
Harry walked over to the table and set the plates down. He then opened the bottle of wine and poured some in each of there glasses. He smiled as he surveyed the table. This was going to be a good night, he thought.

Ginny took the bags up to the bedroom and put them down, getting them out of the bags and seperating them by who she got them for. She often forgot what she would get for Albus and what for james. It was a bad side to having two boys, so close in age with such similar interests. She got everything seperated equally and headed back down. She walked over and kissed his cheek. "I do love it when you cook." not just because it meant she didn't have to, Harry was actually a good cook. She figured it was because his aunt and uncle would make him cook for them. She smiled and went to sit down, picking up a glass of wine she took a drink and put it down. She smiled over at him and crossed her legs.
"So is there a reason you wanted to do this?" She asked. She knew his company holiday party was coming up and she'd planned it for them last year. Harry helped, but Ginny had more free time than he did. then again, she knew he could just be doing it for the sake of romance. He did that quite often and she loved it. she loved that he still had the ability to be romantic and sweet even so many years later.

Harry smiled as Ginny kissed his cheek. "Well thank you Gin." he said. Ginny cooked most of the time, but Harry tried to cook for her and the kids every once in a while. He had actually learned how to cook out of necessity, as his aunt and uncle had forced him to make meals for them when he was growing up. He had learned to enjoy cooking more when he didn't actually have to do it.
Harry shook his head. "No, I really just missed spending time with you." he said. "It has been too long since we could be alone together." he said. It really had been at least two months since they had been together without Lilly. Harry loved his daughter but he missed spending time with his wife. Harry took a drink of his wine and smiled at his wife.

Ginny grinned. "Well I really appriciate it." She said honestly. She loved when he did things like this. Harry was actally different from the guys in her family in that he often did little romantic things. He would bring her flowers, or cook her dinner. She had never seen her dad do something textbook romantic for her mom, because he was pretty scatterbrained. And her brothers were pretty useless as far as romance. The only one that had any talent for it was Bill. And it got him a Veela. Ron was the most useless. He had moments where he would do something sweet, but nothing that one would consider romantic unless they knew Ron. Ginny was shocked when Ron actually got up the courage to ask Hermione to marry him.
She suddenly realized she had to look a mess. She quickly got up again. "I'll be right back." She went up to their room. She didn't have time to shower, but that was fine, she'd showered that morning and didn't smell. She quickly fixed her hair and changed out of her dingy outfit into something a bit nicer, a pale blue dress that went well with her eyes. She walked back down and smiled, feeling better. Even though they were staying home and she knew that Harry didn't really care about if she was dressed nice or not, she wanted to be.

Harry nodded as Ginny excused herself. He knew she had been out for a while and probably needed a few minutes to get ready. He looked over the dinner, making sure everything looked good before she came back. Harry knew it would be fine, but he wanted to make sure it was all perfect.
When she came back, Harry got out of his chair and smiled at her. "You look beautiful." he said. She always looked beautiful, but he liked to compliment her when she dressed up for him. "How'd I get so lucky?" he asked her with a smirk. It had taken him a while to realize it, but it had always been Ginny for him.

"Karma owed you." She said and kissed him before taking a seat. She smoothed down the skirt of her dress. "And thank you." She still sometimes expected to wake up and it was all a dream. That either she wa still eleven years old with a major crush on him, or that she'd be an adult, married to someone else, like Dean. She made a face, just thinking about that. "It looks great Harry." She said honestly. She loved how her life turned out. She loved her husband, she loved her kids. She had wanted this for herself when she was a kid, for a few years she changed her mind, she wanted to see the world, she wanted to know more than just the kitchen. She loved her mom, her mom was the strongest person in the world, but when Ginny was fourteen, she didn't want to be a housewife, she wanted to be more. Now she was an adult, she had her own kids, she was perfectly happy with her stable job, raising her and Harry's kids.

Harry smiled at his wife. He kind of felt the same way, that after all of the hardship and loss that he deserved to be happy. He had lived through ten years of abuse from his aunt and uncle, then to have another seven years having to deal with Voldemort. "I hope it tastes great." he added. Harry was a good enough cook and trusted himself.
"So how was shopping?" he asked her. He knew that she enjoyed shopping, though it wasn't one of his favorite pastimes. "Did the kids ask for a lot this year?" he added. He loved Christmas, mostly to see the reactions of his kids when they opened their presents. He truly loved giving, and loved it even more when they were young.

Ginny grinned. "Have you looked in the boys' room?" She asked. "It looks like I bought out every toy and quidditch shop in London." She shook her head. "Then of course I have stuff for you, little things for nieces and nephews, plus all our brothers and sister in laws." She stopped referring to them as Her brothers, because Harry had been a part of the family for years. At this point they were as much his brothers as they were hers. "I think I've gotten everything though. No more christmas shopping, thank Merlin." She continued to eat. She wasn't a huge shopper on a normal occasion, she'd rather go out and do something else, but Christmas... she went nuts. She loved seeing people's faces as they opened up the gifts she'd buy for them.

Harry laughed. He hadn't actually seen the boys room yet, but he knew how crazy Ginny usually went. "Well that's good love." he said. "I finished my shopping as well, though as it's for you you'll have to wait until Christmas morning." he said with a wink.
"So what did you get for mum and dad" he asked curiously. He always tried to get his father in law something muggle, as he knew how much he was interested in them.

Ginny continued to eat. "Well with the number of gifts on the kids lists..." That and the fact that she could afford it. Growing up in a poor family meant that they couldn't get that many gifts. She got a lot of hand me downs, even though she was a girl. She knew Harry got fewer presents than she had, so she figured he could understand. Having gotten so little, having the ability to give your own kids so much... it meant a lot. "And then mum said she would be sending her gifts for the kids by soon. I hope no one wants to sit in the front room, there isn't going to be space between all the presents." She joked lightly as she took her last bite of the chicken. It had been great. She banished her plate to the sink and looked at him with a grin, shopping for her dad had actually been pretty fun.
"I found a book, it's actually for muggle children, but I knew dad would love it. It's filled with little experiments. Like making a light bulb work with a lemon and things like that. I also got him a new dressing gown and some slippers." Her mum had been complaining about his raggety old sleepwear for so long, Ginny just bought new ones. She got some for her mum too, she bought her a fancy, expensive dressing gown, because, even thoug Molly denied it, she loved having fancy things. Things that were more than just average. And Ginny loved being able to give them to her. "Of course I have everything for you as well. I'm going to get it all wrapped tomorrow." She nodded. "Tonight is going to be all about you and I."

Harry laughed. Even before they had James, he had known that he never wanted his kids to go without. He knew that Ginny's family hadn't always had the money, and even though the Dursley's had it had always gone towards spoiling Dudley. He knew that Ginny understood and so they had always spoiled the kids. "We may just have to put shrinking charms on the gifts then until Christmas morning." Harry joked.
Harry smiled upon hearing about the gift for his father in law. "I can't wait to see the look on his face when he opens it up." he said. Harry finished up his dinner and repeated his wife's actions by banishing his own plate to the sink. "Oh really." he said with a smirk. It had taken Harry a while, but he had learned how to be romantic. He found that with Ginny it came naturally. He knew that Ron had some trouble with Hermione, and he had even tried to help him on occasion but it usually ended bad. "So what would you like to do Mrs. Potter?" he asked with a wink.
